Welcome to our BBS!
Revised: 7/17/94
First, the legal stuff:
I have the right, to do, whatever I want on my system, and I am NOT
liable for anything on this system. You are taking YOUR OWN RISK when
downloading files, and calling this BBS.
Pursuant to the Electronic and Communications Privacy Act of 1986
(18 USC 2510 et. seq.), notice is hereby given that there are no
facilities provided by this system for sending or receiving private
or confidential electronic communications!! ALL messages shall be
deemed to be readily accessible to the general public! DO NOT use
this system for ANY communication for which the sender intends only
the sender and the intended recepient(s) to read! At the very least,
the operators of this system can and do review all communications
transmitted herein!
WHAT'S HERE ON OUR BBS?
We have E-Mail, Files, Forums, Doors, and Teleconference.
WHAT IS E-MAIL?
E-Mail is Electronic Mail. You can send and receive messages here on the
BBS. Messages can be public or private. If a message is public, anyone can
read it. Everyone is encouraged to respond to public messages, even if you
don't know the persons writing the messages. That's how you make friends.
Private messages can only be read by the sender and recipient. If the volume
of mail becomes large, you can download all of the messages, read them at
your convenience, then upload your replies. This requires a QWK mail reader.
WHAT ARE FORUMS?
Our little BBS is made up of different forums. A forum is simply a section
of the BBS where people with similar interests can leave messages and
exchange files. Use the Area Change command to change forums while at
the message menu or while reading messages.
We plan to add more forums as the need arises. If you feel like there is a
subject area that deserves its own forum, please send E-Mail to the Sysop
(me), and I will consider it.
WHY DO WE HAVE FORUMS?
Imagine this BBS as a convention in a hotel. In the main lobby of the hotel,
people congregate (teleconference), talk (E-Mail), and exchange brochures
(Files). Suppose that you wanted to talk about parenthood and the struggles
and triumphs of raising a child. You could wander around listening to
conversations (read E-Mail), trying to find someone with interests like
yours. But what if there was a separate room in the hotel for parents?
Surely you would go there. Well, that's what forums are for.
WHAT ARE DOORS?
Doors are games. We call them doors because our BBS gives up the computer
to another program. While you are in the door, you are out of our BBS.
Don't worry, you'll come back to the BBS when you are done. Be sure to
check out the high scores in the games!
WHAT'S TELECONFERENCE?
Teleconference is an area where you can chat on-line with other callers on
the system. You can enter a group chat with several other callers or enter
a private chat with just one other caller.
In the teleconference you just type what you want to say and press enter.
You can also send "Actions" in Teleconference. An action sends a message
to the other people in Teleconference. For example, you could type "hug"
and press <enter>. Everyone will see "<your name> is hugging everyone
warmly!" Some actions can include another user's name. For example, if
Betty had just typed "hug", you could type "hug Betty" and press <Enter>.
Everyone would see "<your name> is hugging Betty closely!". For a list of
the actions, please look in the Files section. You can also see a listing
of the action commands when you first enter Teleconference. If there is
an action you would like to see added, just let me know and I'll see what
I can do!
WHAT'S IN THE FILES SECTION?
The files section has files which you can download to your computer. Some
of the files are programs like Telix, a communications program. Other files
are information files like this in either WordPerfect or Windows Write
format. As the BBS expands, we will add more files to the BBS.
You will need to choose a transfer protocol to download files. Be sure to
pick the same transfer protocol on your end as you pick on our end. To
see the files we have, pick List Files from the Files Menu. You can Mark
files while viewing the lest. When you mark a file, our BBS will place
that file in a list. When you go to download, our BBS will automatically
send you those files.
WHAT IF I HAVE A QUESTION?
From the Main Menu, select Page The Sysop. If I am nearby, I'll jump on
the BBS and give you a hand. If not, please leave E-Mail to the sysop.
It will come to me and I will answer your question ASAP. You can also
leave a public message to ALL. That way other users can help you out.
Remember, I want you to enjoy this BBS to the fullest. If you have any
suggestions or questions at all, please do not hesitate to let me know.
